How do I print selected records in CardScan?
Answer:
Choose Open from the File menu in CardScan. Select your CardScan database, and choose Open. Click on one of the records you wish to print one time, to highlight it. Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard, and single-click on other entries you wish to select. Choose Print from the File menu and follow the instructions in the Print Wizard.

Can I print the back of a scanned business card in CardScan?
Answer:
Unfortunately, no. You can print the front of your business card but cannot print the back. If you wish to print the back of the card in CardScan, you would have to re-scan the back of your business card as a new record.

The CardScan Detect Cards Automatically feature slows down my laptop computer. How can I resolve this?
Answer:
Open CardScan, click Edit and select Preferences . Click on Scan and uncheck Detect Cards Automatically. Click OK.

Answer:
Start the CardScan program. Choose Save As from the File menu in CardScan. Give the file a name. Click on Save. Click on the Windows Start Button. Choose Programs. Choose PalmPilot Conduit Setup or CardScan Conduit for PalmPilot from the CardScan menu. Choose Enable. Click on Browse. Locate the file that you saved. The default location is C:\Program Files\Corex\CardScan. Double click on the file you saved. Click on Ok.

Choose Programs.Choose CardScan. Choose PalmPilot Conduit Setup or Conduit for PalmPilot. Click on Browse. Search for and double click on the file named Blank.cdb. Select a Two-Way Synchronization. (In CardScan version 3.0.6 or later, this option will be listed in the Advanced or Synchronization section). Click on Ok. Place your PalmPilot in its cradle, and HotSync. You will begin to see the address information appear in CardScan. Once this has completed, bring up the CardScan program, and click on any one of the entries. Choose Select All from the Edit menu. Choose Delete from the Card menu. Your entries in CardScan will have been deleted. HotSync your PalmPilot, and your Address Book will have been cleared.

Open CardScan and the other application, and size the windows to see both simultaneously. Open a CardScan file in List view. In the other application, click the contact to copy and hold the button down until the cursor changes shape. Drag the contact on to the CardScan window and release the mouse button. The new contact appears in the List and Contact List.

If another application supports drag-and-drop, you can drag and drop text into selected fields of a CardScan contact. Open CardScan and the other application, and size the windows so they are both visible. In the other application, highlight the text to drag and drop. Press the mouse button and drag the highlighted text to the CardScan window, then release the mouse button.

If the other application supports the vCard interchange format, you can drag and drop contacts from CardScan as follows: Open CardScan and the other application. Drag the contact to the other application and release the mouse button. The contact information appears in the correct fields of a new contact.

Answer:
In CardScan, click on File, highlight Data Exchange and click on CardScan Synchronization. If the Data Exchange Wizard appears, check No, I want to Synchronize and click OK. Press the Configure button in the CardScan Synchronization window. SelectACT! 4.0 or Later under Select Application. Click the Browse button under CardScan File. Highlight the database you would like to Synchronize with and press Open. Click the Browse button under ACT! Database. Highlight the ACT! database you'd like to Synchronize with and press Open. In the Configure Synchronization window press the OK button to save the configuration. Click the Synchronize button to combine the data between CardScan and ACT!

How do you configure CardScan synchronization with Lotus Notes 4.6 or later?
Answer:
In CardScan, click on File, highlight Data Exchange and click on CardScan Synchronization. If the Data Exchange Wizardappears, checkNo, I want to Synchronizeand click OK. Press the Configure button in the CardScan Synchronization window. SelectLotus Notes 4.6 or Later under Select Application. Click the Browse button under CardScan File. Highlight the database you would like to Synchronize with and click Open. Click the Select button under Lotus Notes Database. Highlight the Lotus Notes Address Book you'd like to Synchronize with and press OK. In the Configure Synchronization window press the OK button to save the configuration. How do you categorize multiple contacts in CardScan?
Answer:
In list view, select the contacts to place in the same category. UseShift+clickto select a series of contacts. UseCtrl+clickto select non-sequential contacts. Choose Categories and click on the Assign option or pressCtrl+r . The Assign Categories dialog will appear. Select categories by clicking their checkboxes. Click OK to assign the selected categories and close the Assign Categories window.

How do I categorize a contact in CardScan?
Answer:
To assign categories to one contact: Display the contact in Edit or Summary view. Click the Categories tab to display all categories. Check off each category to be assigned to the contact. For example, assign categories Businessand Associate. CardScan indicates the assigned categories by displaying their names above the list. You can categorize a contact in List view, by selecting it and choosing Categories Assign. Assign the same category to multiple contacts.

What is the graphics file format of the scanned card image?
Answer:
The scanned image is a CardScan proprietary format, which cannot be used by any other program. However, in CardScan v8, you can save a card image by selecting the contact you want, going to the Card menu and selecting Save Image As to save the card imageas a Windows Bitmap or JPEG file.

Does CardScan create an ODBC file?
Answer:
CardScan doesn't use ODBC, DBF, or other database formats. CardScan uses its own proprietary database format, which cannot be accessed by any other program.

How do I combine multiple CardScan database files?
Answer:
Open the first file. FromList View, select all records. Click Edit and select Copy. Click File and select Open. Choose and open the file into which you wish to paste the cards you copied from the first file. From the Edit menu, select Paste. You will see the cards from the first file appear in the List View of the second file.

How do I make backups of CardScan database?
Answer:
Open the CardScan software. ChooseFile & Maintenance Backup. The Backup Wizard screen appears. Select or browse for the file to back up and clickNext. If the file has no copy on CardScan.net, the Choose Destination screen appears. If the file already has a copy on CardScan.net, the Back Up Image screen appears. Choose the option that suits you best, follow the on-screen instructions.

How do I make duplicate records with CardScan?
Answer:
In List View, highlight the card you want to duplicate or View the card in the Edit or Summary View. Choose Duplicate from the Card menu. You will see the duplicate card appear in the Edit View. Edit the information on the duplicate version of the card.

How do I delete entries from the phone fields list in CardScan?
Answer:
Create a new CardScan file. Drag and drop or copy and paste all the cards from the current file to the new file. Close the original file and save the new file under the original name. Choose Yes when CardScan asks if you want to overwrite the original file. All unused entries from the drop-down list no longer appear in the drop-down list.

In List View, use the mouse to select more than one name from the list. Hold down the control key while clicking on individual names to simultaneously select non-consecutive items in the list. Click on the email icon or selectCard Send Mail To. Your email program will launch and display a blank message addressed to each person you selected.

How do I synchronize my Windows CE Device with CardScan?

On your desktop, click the Microsoft ActiveSync icon or choose Start Programs - Microsoft ActiveSync. The Microsoft ActiveSync window opens. Click the Tools menu and choose Options. The Sync Options tab of the ActiveSync Options dialog appears. Enable the Contacts CardScan service by selecting the corresponding checkbox. Disable all other Contacts services unchecking the corresponding checkbox. NOTE: This is necessary because you can synchronize with only one contact manager at a time. Click Settings. The CardScan ActiveSync Options dialog appears. Click Browse to select the CardScan file for synchronization. Click OK to close the CardScan ActiveSync Options dialog. Click on the Sync Mode tab to select when you want synchronization to take place. Click OK to complete the configuration and return to the Microsoft ActiveSync window.

How do I calibrate a CardScan scanner?
Answer:
Open the CardScan software. ClickEdit Preferences. Click the Scan icon. Select your scanner in the Source list and click the Setup button. At the scanner setup dialog, click the Calibrate button. Insert the Calibration card as instructed. Click OK on the prompt. After the scanner has been successfully calibrated click the OK button twice.

In CardScan, click onFile, choose Data Exchange and click on CardScan Synchronization. If the Data Exchange Wizard comes up, choose No, I want to Synchronize and click OK. In the CardScan Synchronization window, clickConfigure. Under Select Application, click on the Microsoft Outlook option. Click the Browse button under CardScan File. How do I import contacts into an Ipod?
Answer:
Windows Users: Choose File Data Exchange Export. The prompt to try the Data-Exchange Wizard prompt appears. Choose No, I want to Export, and follow the wizard's instructions to create vCards. This will give you an option to save the vCards to any directory you wish. Make sure you have your iPod plugged into the FireWire port and that it is mounted in Finder. Double click My Computer. Click the iPod icon to open it like a hard drive. Now click on the Contacts. Inside the directory were you saved all of your vCards drag and drop then into the Contacts folder of the iPod. Macintosh Users: Select the CardScan menu Preferences Sync and select your CardScan Database you would like to sync with your Mac Address Book. Contacts will sync automatically. Once contacts are synced with Mac Address Book, open iTunes. Connect your iPod and sync iTunes with Mac Address Book.

Can the SDK read documents with different types of information than is currently found on a business card?
Answer:
No, the SDK is designed to read business cards and you cannot modify this logic. To identify information on other kinds of documents, you have to develop your own algorithms to sort through the results.

Can I use the CardScanSDK to control the CardScan program?
Answer:
No, the CardScan SDK is designed for applications that require complete control over the scanning and recognition process and, therefore, does not provide any means to control or interact with the CardScan program.

Does CardScan SDK have an OLE, COM or ActiveX interface?
Answer:
The CardScan SDK does not provide an OLE, COM or ActiveX interface. However the SDK is implemented as a set of standard Windows API calls exported from a DLL and any programming environment that is capable of calling functions in a DLL will be able to use the SDK. The SDK includes an unsupported sample program that wraps a COM/ActiveX interface around the SDK's DLL calls. The sample is written in Visual Basic.

Can I use the CardScan SDK to read cards from outside the United States and Canada?
Answer:
Yes, the SDK has the same capabilities as CardScan in this regard. It reads business cards from North America, Europe, Australia and South America. CardScan's accuracy on international cards is comparable to the US version.

Does the CardScan SDK support languages like Hebrew/Russian?
Answer:
The CardScan SDK only supports the countries and languages supported by CardScan and you cannot add support for additional languages or countries on your own.

Yes. The CardScan SDK is implemented as a set of standard Windows API calls exported from a DLL. If your development environment can call Windows DLLs you will have no problem using the SDK.

Answer:
Yes, but you have to write an intermediary program between the CardScan SDK and the database. This program uses the SDK to read the cards and then writes the information to the database. Your program should allow the user to verify the information in case there are any mistakes.

No, the SDK cannot be adjusted to evaluate only a particular font or location. However, you can manipulate the scanned image and erase or crop out the information you want the SDK to ignore.

When you need contacts to be available in CardScan, ACT! 2011 and Microsoft Outlook, it is recommended to synchronize CardScan with ACT! 2011 and then synchronize ACT! 2011 with Microsoft Outlook.

Answer:
CardScan is not capable of synchronizing directly with an iPad. However, you can use Mac Address Book or Microsoft Outlook to sync your contacts between CardScan and your iPad.

Browse to the CardScan menu Preferences. Select the Synchronization tab. Choose the CardScan database you want to synchronize with Mac Address Book. Select Apply. In a few moments, your contacts will begin to merge together.

Choose Selected Contacts Only and then Next. Select the file type you want to export (vCard, CSV, etc). Select Browse and choose a location to save your vCard or CSV file.

How can I publish the CardScan custom Outlook Contact form to a computer without CardScan installed?
Answer:
CopyOlTrans.oft(for Outlook 2000 / 2002) or OLTRANS3.oft(for Outlook 2003) to the other users computer. Once the .oft file has been copied to the computer, open Microsoft Outlook. Click Tools and select Forms and Choose Form. Click the drop-down menu and select Use templates in file system. Click Browse. Browse to the location where the OFT file was copied in step 1 and click OK. HighlightOlTrans and click Open. An Untitled - Contact will open. In this window, open Tools, select Forms and choose Publish Forms. A Publish Form As dialog opens. Select OlTrans or OlTrans3(depending on which version of Outlook is installed) and click Publish. Close the Untitled - Contact and do not save changes.

Open Outlook Express. Select Tools and choose Options. The Options dialog box will be displayed. Click the General tab and enable the option entitled, Make Outlook Express my default Simple MAPI client. Click Yes and OK.

Open CardScan. Select the contact with the missing business card from your database. Select Card Replace from the Menu. Feed the new or replacement business card through your scanner. Accept any changes in contact information from the scanned business card, then select OK .

You must be logged on to the computer LOCALLY as ADMINISTRATOR before continuing. Click Start - Settings - Control Panel-Internet Options. Click the Programs tab at the top. You must have Microsoft Outlook next to email. Click OK and close Control Panel. Open the CardScan program. Click Tools-Signature Card . Select the desired option. You can scan a new card to use as your signature, you can use a card that you already have scanned into your open database file or you can choose to Stop including cardif you wish to disable this feature. Then, clickNext. You will be prompted to place a card into the scanner or choose a card from a list, depending on the option you chose. If you are happy with the scanned image, clickNext until you are on the Finished screen. Click Finish.

How do you make a CardScan file read-only?
Answer:
Open Windows Explorer. Browse to the location of the CardScan database file in question. Right click the database file and choose properties. Click the General properties tab. Check the box labeled Read-only in the Attributes section. Click OK to apply changes.

I have created a custom export template that I would like to distribute to users. How can I do that?
Answer:
When you create a custom export template, it is stored in the directories below with name export.xpt . Version 7.0.5 and lower - C:\Program Files\Corex\CardScan\Exports. Versions 8.0 or higher - C:\Program Files\CardScan\CardScan\Exports. The next custom export template will have the name export002.xpt and so on. In order to distribute the custom export template, you need to copy this export.xpt file(s) into the other users CardScan\Exports directory.

What files are required by CardScan to transfer to Outlook?
Answer:
In order to transfer cards to Outlook, CardScan uses the Outlook library file which is installed by Outlook setup. Outlook Setup registers this file in the registry for other programs that want to communicate with Outlook.

How do I import information into CardScan from another application?
Answer:
In CardScan, go to File Open to open the CardScan database file where you want to add the imported information. Click File and select Import. This will open up the Import File window. You will need to browse for the file that was exported from the other application. Select the file and click Open. The Import Wizard will appear. Under Import Templates, select the other application if it is available. If it is in the list and you select it, move to step # 9. All of the information from the import file will be arranged in columns with the name of the column at the top. If the information does not appear in columns, you may need to click Tab under Delimit by. Above each column, there are drop-down menus. You will need to select the appropriate entry from the list to match the column name. You should do this for each column of information. There are scroll bars at the bottom of the window that will allow you to move to the left or right if necessary. Once all of the columns are mapped correctly, you can click on Save As Template and type the name of the other application under Template Name and click OK. Then, you will be able to select this application from the list the next time you use the CardScan Import feature. Next, click Import. This should bring all of the information into CardScan.

How do I export from CardScan to a text file or application not predefined in the export wizard?
Answer:
Click File in CardScan and select Data Exchange/Export. If prompted for Data Exchange Wizard, choose No, I want to Export and click Next. Choose an export option at the Introduction page and click Next. At the second page of the Export Wizard, select Other and click Next. Choose to Create a free-form template and click Next. At the Next few pages, define the Export Template and custom options. Complete the Export wizard to create the txt or csv file.

How do I Export cards to MS Schedule + ?
Answer:
Run CardScan. Open the CardScan file you wish to Export the information from and Choose View from the CardScan menu and select List. Select the records you would like to Export. Click on File - Export. Choose Cards Selected in the List View, and click Next. SelectSchedule+from the application list, clickNext. Use the Pre-Defined Template, click Next. Remember the name and location of the text (.txt) file. Click Next. Click Cancel. Run Schedule+. Open the Schedule + file you wish to Import the CardScan records to. Click on the Contacts tab. Click on File-Import-Text. Browse for the text file that was created and click Next. Choose Yes, clickNext. Choose acommafor the separator, and quotation marks as the delimiter, click Next. Choose the Contact List, click Next. On the right side, you will see a list of words that say Ignore This Field, which are drop-down menus. Verify the words on the right side match those on the left, with Business Address information chosen for the addresses on the left, click Finish.

How do I use CardScan data for a Microsoft Word mail merge?
Answer:
Open CardScan. Select File Menu / Data Exchange / Export. If prompted for the Data Exchange Wizard, choose 'No, I want to Export' / click OK. The Export Wizard opens. Choose to export 'All Cards' / click Next. Select the Microsoft Word from the list of applications / click Next. Choose to 'use the predefined template' / click Next. Click Next to save the .txt file to My Documents (by default). Open Microsoft and create the mail merge. Open Microsoft Word to the form letter or address label template (created earlier). Select the Tools Menu / select Letters and Mailings / select Mail Merge. The Mail Merge task pain opens. Select the document type. Click Next. Select the Starting Document / click Next. Choose to 'use and existing list' and click Browse. Browse to the file created in steps 1 to 7 and click Open (filename.txt saved to My Documents by default) / click Next. A Confirm Recipients dialog may appear. By default, all recipients are selected. Click OK to proceed. Click Next for step 3 to 6 to complete the wizard. Use the Mail Merge toolbar to make changes to the source document and complete the merge. This toolbar can be opened from View Menu / Toolbars / Mail Merge.

How can I export from CardScan software into Excel?
Answer:
Go to File - Export. Choose which contacts you want to export. Choose the File Format you want to be exported. Choose a location to save your exported file.

How do I Inteillisync with a replica of a Lotus Notes database?
Answer:
Start Intellisync for CardScan and open the Configure screen. Under Address Book, click Choose. Select your version of Lotus Notes and click Options. In the field for Lotus Notes database name specify repltest. You don't need to add an extension or path as Intellisync for CardScan will look for the file in the default Notes data directory. Click OK until you are back at the main Intellisync screen. Click Synchronize. If this fails, try to synchronize with a blank CardScan database, keeping all other settings the same.

Can I evaluate the CardScan SDK before I buy it?
Answer:
Yes, there are two versions of the CardScan SDK. There is a full version that includes everything you need to build a stand-alone application, and an abridged version that relies on the end-user to install CardScan separately. You can download the abridged version of the SDK from the CardScan web site, use it to develop your application and then purchase the full SDK if/when you are ready to package it into a stand-alone installation kit.
