Rated 2 out of 5 by from Eats batteries Due to a bad design, the unit will ALWAYS be underpowered. In order to register a full battery it needs a battery at a minimum of 8V but with 6 rechargeable batteries, you can't get more than 7.2V (1.2V x 6 batteries). At 7.35v the unit says the batteries are dead and prints very poorly. The only solution is to constantly change out the batties with ONLY non-rechargeable alkaline batteries or possibly use Li-ion batteries that could provide the full 1.5V per battery giving the needed overall 9V. Overall not a great design, and could have been designed better and with more power resilience. Further, when you try to call them about this issue, they just send out a new unit that has the exact same issues.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from DOES NOT INCLUDE BATTERY AS TATED. DOES NOT INCLUDE BATTERY AS STATED. It clearly states on the add page that the rechargeable battery is included in the single unit. I even made an inquiry to DYMO concerning it and in their email to me they stated that indeed it came with a rechargeable battery whether bought as a single or in the kit. I ordered mine from Staples and the shipping box had a battery warning label on it, but when I opened the unit there was NO BATTERY nor charger. So if you are expecting to get a battery with the single unit you will be disappointed. Buy the kit instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best labeler for electrical/IT work out there I've had this product for years and it has met every need of mine for labeling, especially for electrical work and wiring. Keep in mind that this is an industrial labeler specifically designed for contractor/electrician/networking work so it may not be the best for other uses. I love the QWERTY keyboard, and use it frequently to label wires, switches, panels, panel breakers, patch bays, and more. The built-in formats are extremely useful for this purpose. The wide selection of label materials, such as nylon, vinyl, and poly allow great flexibility for different uses, and high durability for the labels. For newer projects the heatshrink option is amazing. Make sure you use the correct type for your application. My only (minor) issue is that it can be battery hungry - when using AA alkalines make sure you remove them between uses. Does not really work with rechargeable AAs due to their lower voltage. Use the Dymo battery if you want rechargeable. I definitely recommend this for wire and electrical labeling! I'm submitting this review because as a long time user I feel that the other reviews here are not representative.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from mstly great industrl lbls stick; missing chars Overall, I really like this device. the "industrial" quality label tape sticks to everything i've tried. This tape is available from dymo, but not what you get with the unit. the cable labeling feature is tremendous, and is why i bought this unit. I have also used the barcode feature for tapes in the data center. another reviewer complained they could not use rechargeable batteries. I use Eneloop brand with success. However, the battery indicator always shows low even with fresh batteries. came here tonight looking for the manual, hoping for a secret feature to get at extended symbols - but apparently what you see is what you get. -1 star for that, the selection is pretty lame. I've had mine for about a year with light use, ive gone through about two rolls of tape. have one at work that gets a similar level of use, has been working for severla years now. had one previously that died after maybe two years. review web form is lame, limits me to 50 chars in title

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really awesome labeler, however... This is the best labeler I've ever used. Admittedly, I do not have the biggest needs--just lots of labels for cabling, but it does great. However, I am in need of two more, and no one seems to have the kit in stock.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Labels don't stick very good I bought this thinking the labels would be better quality then the cheap ones but they are not. I bought the vinyl because it said it would stick to textured surfaces but it won't even stick to my pelican cases. I feel it is a waste of money as the cheap one I bought from my local supermarket sticks better. It does have some cool cable printing options but that's about it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Excellent except for the battery issue. See below The main issues with this unit or any Dymo product (or the pnp label maker especially) that uses a "7.4v" volt rechargeable battery is that, as another reviewer correctly reported, is that the battery voltage must be at least 8V (the nominal voltage of two fully charged lit ion batteries) which requires that the rechargeable battery be almost 100% charged. Further, the battery pack is charged from the usb port, so it takes a long time to charge 100%,. Once the battery gets a little old, it will not charge to that high a voltage and the battery will no longer power the unit. I know all this because I patched in a bench power supply where I could control the regulated output voltage very accurately and found that 8.2 volts worked the best.. The second problem is that a replacement battery is about $25 which is nut and will not last. For my PNP dymos, I soldered a couple of leads to the internal spring battery contacts (for my pnp dymos since they do not have a power jack like some other Dymos) and use two very common 18650 lit ion batteries in series made into an external battery pack which powers the unit beautifully. If your Dymo model has an external power jack, as does the Rhinos, then you could power the unit through that with the lit ion 18650 batteries. Of course, you have to be willing to solder to the spring battery contacts if your Dymo does not have an external power jack and have an 18650 charger, both cost less than a replacement battery. The issue in regards to the labels that someone mentioned is not correct, you just have to use the correct label cartridges for the purpose. I find the labels to be excellent but you just have to use the correct variety. In fact, some stick almost too good. I have five Dymo label makers and they are all excellent except for this battery issue which I solved with a hack. As an electrical engineer myself, I don't know why the Dymo engineers have not addressed this simple battery issue which has been around for many years. Maybe Dymo thought that the batteries could be recharged from the usb port (they can't really) once they get a little aged), outsourced that part of the design or that they really don't use these models themselves. I would be happy to debate this battery problem with Dymo since maybe I missed something. Other than the battery issue, Dymo products are excellent as are their labels.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Huge waste of time and effort I cannot print anything in lower-case font. Everything is ALL CAPs regardless of the caps lock/key. Using fixed length labels makes no sense because it was always limit you to a much small font than what the label width was designed (12pt on 3/8" label?!?).
